Resolution
Oklahoma Council of the Blind
January, 2003

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Council of the Blind has a long history of support and advocacy for specialized services for blind and visually impaired individuals, and

WHEREAS, the benefit of having these specialized services consolidated in the Department of Rehabilitation Services rather than scattered among multiple state agencies has proven an effective method of delivering these services to the blind of Oklahoma, and

WHEREAS, in 1990 when the Oklahoma Council of the Blind passed a resolution calling for creation of a separate Department of Rehabilitation Services it was understood and anticipated by Council members that these services would remain in DRS with appropriate funding,

Now therefore be it resolved by the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Council of the Blind this 19th day of January, 2003, that the Council advocates full funding for the Department of Rehabilitation Services as it is currently configured with core services including Visual Services programs, Vocational Rehabilitation, the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and the schools for the blind and deaf.

And be it further resolved that the President and members of the Board shall convey the sense of this resolution to members of the Legislature, the Governor’s office and all other appropriate parties.
